Questions, Answered

What to know about fit, scope, pricing, and working together.

Fit & Starting Point

Something is not working, but we cannot name the problem. Can Sycamore North help?

Yes. A team can begin with what feels stuck or what has stopped moving. Discovering the real constraint is part of the work, not something the team has to solve before reaching out.

Who does Sycamore North work with?

Sycamore North works with nonprofits, churches, and mission-driven teams that are leading a change, restructuring, or preparing to grow. The common thread is an organization that wants stronger systems, clearer ownership, and a team that can carry the work.

Who is Sycamore North not the right fit for?

It is not the right fit if you need someone to supervise staff or run daily operations, if you need HR, finance, legal, or fundraising work, or if you want creative or marketing production. It is also a poor fit when no one inside the organization can own the work or make decisions.

Does Sycamore North work with organizations of different faith traditions?

Yes. Sycamore North works with churches, faith-based nonprofits, and organizations of any tradition or none. Kristen has worked in nondenominational, Catholic, and Churches of Christ and Christian Church settings, and she works within your mission, values, and governance, including elder-led and board-led structures.

Is Sycamore North a fit for a small team?

Yes. The work is shaped around the organization that actually exists. A smaller team does not need a larger consulting process. It needs the right scope, a practical result, and tools it can continue using.

What happens after the first conversation?

Kristen asks a few questions about what is not moving, what the team has already tried, and what a useful outcome would look like. She then recommends the smallest level of support that can move the work forward.

What happens in a Clarity Session?

In ninety minutes, Kristen helps you name the constraint holding the work back. You leave with a written one-page summary and a practical recommendation for what to do next. Please have the decision maker attend so the next step can be settled in the room.

What do we need to have ready?

A defined problem, even a rough one; a named project owner inside your team; a decision maker or sponsor who can say yes; and the staff time to take part. Without those, the work stalls, and Kristen will tell you so before you spend money.

Scope & Support

What kinds of work can Sycamore North support?

The focus is change management and restructuring that support sustainable growth, with communication in support: change announcements, consistency across locations, and internal communication. Other work includes volunteer and leadership pipelines, platform rollouts, partnership models, and roles and decision clarity. Kristen writes the plans, playbooks, SOPs, and training that make it repeatable.

What is Fractional Leadership?

It is part-time operations and change leadership for a season of change, starting at about five hours a week, with one client at a time. Kristen sets priorities with your leaders, builds the leadership rhythm, moves decisions forward, writes playbooks and SOPs, and coaches your leaders. She works through your leaders’ authority and reports to whoever sponsors the work. She does not supervise staff or run daily operations.

Is this the same as a fractional COO?

It is close, but narrower. A fractional COO often runs operations and may manage staff. Kristen leads operations and change work through your existing leaders, builds the systems, and equips your people to run them.

What is a Scoped Engagement?

A defined project that starts at $2,500. Kristen diagnoses the problem, designs the solution, and writes the plan with named owners. She builds the SOPs and playbooks, trains your team, and checks in weekly through the rollout. Your team provides a project owner, a decision maker, staff time, and the day-to-day work.

Does Sycamore North work remotely or on-site?

Both. Work is a mix of remote and on-site. Kristen meets with organizations in person within 50 miles of Baltimore. Locations farther away can be supported with a travel fee.

What happens if Kristen is unavailable?

Kristen takes one fractional client at a time and agrees a schedule with you at the start. Plans, playbooks, and decisions are kept in shared documents your team owns, so the work does not depend on one person. If she needs to be away, she tells you in advance and plans around your key dates.

Will the team be able to continue without Sycamore North?

That is the point. Each engagement builds in clear ownership, shared documentation, accessible decisions, and systems the team can use without depending on Kristen. Teams leave with a way of working they can continue carrying forward.

Pricing & Engagements

How much does an engagement cost?

A Clarity Session is $249 for ninety minutes. Scoped Engagements begin at $2,500 and are priced around the complexity of the work. Fractional Leadership begins at $3,500 per month. Supported rates and phased scopes are available for smaller organizations with limited resources, including nonprofits and churches.

Is the Clarity Session fee applied to a larger engagement?

Yes. If you confirm a larger engagement in writing within 30 days of your session, the $249 is credited to that work. If the contract is in progress at day 30, the credit is held for up to 60 days.

What is the Clarity Sprint?

A Sprint is a one-to-two-week, $750 engagement offered by invitation after an initial conversation. It turns one contained problem into a four-to-six-page written Clarity Map with a 30-minute follow-up. The same credit rule applies if you move into larger work.

How long does an engagement take?

A Clarity Session is one conversation. A Sprint takes one to two weeks. A Scoped Engagement depends on the project, and Kristen sets scope and timing with you. Fractional engagements start with 90 days, then continue month to month with 30 days’ notice.
